Venice

We had a wonderful evening. The temperature dropped a number of degrees and there was a breeze that was almost cool. We walked a short distance from our apartment and sat at a table on the edge of the canal. The people strolling by both on the canal and on the street - yes of course the people in the canal were in boats - but the same sense of not having any particular place to go and ignoring time.

I had a sardine pasta dish - tagliatelle (long ribboned pasta) with sardines, shallots, raisins and anchovie juice. That was followed by a salad of fresh greens and pear with a balsamic dressing and of course a bottle of chilled prosecco a sparkling wine made from the Glera grapes in Veneto which is grown in the mountains outside of Venice. For any wine aficionados out there, of which I am not, forgive the generalities. Of course dessert had some kind of chocolate in it. There was that feeling of falling in love all over again.

This morning was a lazy start. We aren't going to feel guilty for not pounding the pavement looking into churches or going to museums - just aren't that interested plus it makes me hurt physically to walk. We took the vaporetto (sea taxi). Not that easy to figure out the schedules and routes but we managed to get to St. Marks square. It's a must see I guess. Strolled some of the streets - all about selling both cheap and expensive clothes and jewelry. Your job is to differentiate between the 2.

Post lunch of a zucchini ham and cheese sandwich on fociatta bread with olive oil and fresh thyme and rosemary? It was washed down with a refreshingly cold diet coke.

We were home by 3 and I took a nap. It was luxurious. I say that because I'm not a napper but this was wonderful.

The Madonna dell'Orto just on the other side of the apartments court yard.
