The Vatican 9.10.15

Another nice day in Rome. Perfect temperatures and blue skies. We met our dear friends Michelle, Malcolm, and Kathy for a tour of the Vatican. In the evening we had cocktails on our terrace and dinner at the Trattoria Monti. It was wonderful to spend time with them. They start the 2 week Umbria cycling tour tomorrow. The one we had planned to be on with the rest of our friends but something got in our way. I wish them all a good ride and expect to hear stories of their adventures along the way.

I've been to the Vatican 3 times now and have each time fallen in love with something beautiful. This time I saw Michalangelo da Caravagios paintings and was captivated especially by Entombment of Christ.

A word of warning to travelers. Malcomb and Michelle shortly after arrival to Italy had their car broken into and had everything stolen - bikes, luggage, computers. They've managed to pull things together and will get to ride but what a discouraging start. Be careful.

We are on the train from Rome back to Venice. Tomorrow we begin another adventure as we begin our cruise to the Croatian coast. Should be fun as this is on a sailing ship with around 200 passengers.

I will however give myself some time to grieve that we can't be with our friends riding bikes.
