9.14.15 Kotor Montenegro

Another beautiful morning. Warm with not a single cloud in the sky. We pulled into Kotor Bay Montenegro around 8:30 AM. If you look on the map it's a very deep bay and well protected. It has a rich maritime history and is surrounded by huge mountains. There is an island where history has it sailors when leaving or returning from the sea threw a rock into the water. Over centuries the the rocks created an island and finally on that island a church was built - The Lady Of The Rocks.

We pulled into the bay and circled this small island with the church and the ship blew its horn 3 times. Of course there was an amazing series of echoes and as is customary the church rang its bells.

It was a bit of a bump in the road for us and some realization. There were several large cruise ships accompanying us and so the town was bustling with tourists. We have been traveling enough where small quaint villages with Venetian influence - it was part of the Venetian Republic for many years, is not so awe inspiring for us. It's not with prejudce that I say that but in all the miles and small out of the way hill top villages where we have stayed on our cycling trips, at some point it becomes enough and it's okay to experience the patterns of the architecture and the beauty of the landscape without having to know all about the history.

None the less we took the excursion bus to Persat a small village next to the island where The Lady Of The Rocks island is and took a 2 minute boat ride to visit the church. Oddly enough we didn't go into the church but sat outside and talked.

We set sail that evening for Dubrovnik at 7 pm.
